Individual & Relationships Therapy

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy can be weird at times. It’s subjective and heady and brings up a lot of existential questions like, what even is therapy!? The short answer: Therapy is whatever you want it to be. It’s your time to use how you want, whether that’s working through trauma, processing current life stressors, or it’s just part of your self care routine. Often times it’s a mixture of all three.

My approach to therapy starts with a gender expansive and intersectional feminist theory foundation. I value anti-racist, anti-oppressive, non-pathologizing, trauma informed and liberation based practices. I am social justice & disability justice oriented, and I try to dismantle the hierarchal power dynamics between therapist and client. I believe you are the expert of your own experiences, and all the “answers” lie within yourself. My job— in part— is to create a safe(r) environment and join you in your process. We do this by co-constructing a relationship that feels trusting and consistent, and then we dive in. Additionally, I see the relationship we build together as therapist and client as a huge resource to explore relational dynamics & wounds elsewhere in your life.

My Therapy Orientation: Relational/psychodynamic, Trauma Informed, Harm Reduction, and EMDR.

My Areas of Work

My approach is largely non-diagnostic, although I will evaluate & diagnose for Insurance Reimbursement, accommodation letters, FMLA, etc., if needed. I feel a unique clinical strength of mine is helping to increase an understanding of the connections between both trauma and current behavior and/or symptoms, and also “internalized ism’s” (toxic masculinity, white supremacy, fatphobia, etc) and behavior and/or symptoms.

I have experience working with people who struggle with: depression, anxiety, dissociation, mood instability, self harm, dysfunctional relationships, sexual issues, suicidal ideation, no-longer-helpful trauma responses and/or coping mechanisms, intrusive thoughts, problematic eating patterns, substance use, and more.

I’ve supported clients with: gender & sexuality journeys, trauma work, identity development, grief, identifying & practicing boundaries, reparenting yourself, navigating complex family of origin relationships, existential questions, navigating social and institutional oppression, communicative growth, contextualizing shame and insecurities, navigating queer/trans fertility, gestation, postpartum & parenting, navigating disability and/or neurodivergence, instrumenting liberation based practices such as rest, creativity, mindfulness, decolonizations, and more.

I have experience supporting couples with: making repair processes, LGBTQIA+ family planning & parenting, disrupting dysfunctional patterns, communicative growth/nonviolent communication, sex & sexual dynamics, navigating ENM and/or other nontraditional relationship structures & paths, navigating inter-racial/ability/gender/etc dynamics, conscious uncoupling, couples EMDR, and more.
